As a result of global competitiveness, the 21st century job market in the chemical sciences is favoring individuals with authentic global expertise. All other qualifications being the same, individuals who speak a second language, can operate in a multicultural, international team, and are able to adapt quickly to life in a different country are usually selected over those who do not demonstrate these qualifications. This is particularly important for positions with scientific teams at multinational companies and at the best research institutions in the world. Opportunities to acquire such experiences abound for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students. But how does a student go about finding them and most importantly funding them? This presentation will provide some guidelines and an overview of scholarships, fellowships and other resources available to US citizens and residents going abroad.
