This talk will explore the contexts of mercury-based therapeutics for syphilis in Japan, tracing the material and cultural flows of drugs and medical practices through the East Asian region and the early-modern world.
Daniel Trambaiolo completed doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge, working in the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology on the structure and mechanism of proteins involved in bacterial cell division. His current research explores the history of early-modern East Asian medicine, with a particular focus on the history of therapeutics in 18th- and 19th-century Japan.
