This 2011 congress of the Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC), held jointly with the SACI convention, will seek to generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry, key to Africa’s future.

The South African Chemical Institute (SACI) Convention will have as part of its proceedings a day set aside for the Third Annual Congress of the Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC). It will be held at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, January 16-21, 2011.

FASC aims at promoting the advancement of chemical sciences and the practice of chemistry that could be instrumental to the fulfillment of the development aspiration and objective of the people in Africa. FASC seeks to achieve its aim primarily through networking African chemical societies among themselves and with sister international and regional societies, as well as with international and regional initiatives that aim at the promotion of sustainable development in Africa. FASC was established on 23 February 2006 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The event will also be a unique opportunity to recognize the efforts of the Ethiopian chemists who had been prime movers in getting the IYC 2011 declaration.
